Atmospheric 1960s seascape by Kai Eric Hansen, depicting Aalborg Harbor in cool Nordic tones. A modernist harbor view in oil on board, set in its original vintage frame
A captivating Danish seascape painted in 1965, depicting the distinctive atmosphere of Aalborg Harbor. Created by Kai Eric Hansen—widely known as “the painter of sky and sea”—the work blends calm Nordic light with a modernist, linear harbor composition. Silhouetted boats rest along the horizon while soft reflections animate the water, creating a quiet yet expressive coastal mood.
The painting is executed in oil on hardboard and presented in its original period frame, which enhances the mid-century aesthetic. The palette of blue-greens, muted pastels, and deep shadow tones gives the piece strong decorative versatility, ideal for Scandinavian, coastal, and mid-century interiors.
Signed lower right, with a biographical text on the back confirming the motif, location (Aalborg Havn) and period. The condition is good with no notable issues—an evocative and authentic mid-century artwork from Denmark.
