Lovely floral still life with sunflowers in modern style. Oil on canvas. Textured painting technique, which I have tried to reflect in the pictures. Made by the Danish artist Adelbert Johan Winther. Signed in the lower right corner and on the back of the painting. Adelbert Johan Winther did sign with A.W. Venø. Get the explanation further down – it’s a good story. About the Artist
Adelbert Johan Winther (1913 – 1972) was a Danish painter born in Germany.
Adelbert Winther used the stage name Venø. From 1960 he signed A.W. Venø.
Winther was born in Hamburg to Danish parents, but then lived in Denmark.
He lived with his parents in Copenhagen and Aarhus, where he also attended school. At the age of 14 he went to sea and sailed the world’s oceans for 8 years. He then received three years of artistic training (1935–38) as a painter in Holland with the Dutch painter Adriaan Joh. van’ t Hoff. He then went back to Denmark, got married and lived in various places there.

He practiced various professions, but did not neglect painting. He worked as a forest worker, ferryman (rowing ferry to the island of Venø – hence his stage name). He restored several farms one after the other, where he also installed his studio and exhibition. He took care of his family: his wife Gudrun, his own children Tonny and Hella and Gurli, his wife’s daughter. He painted a lot during this time and was also able to sell his paintings well. From 1970 onwards he had major health problems which made it necessary to move to Lyngby. He no longer had the strength to paint. He died in Lynby after a heart attack in 1972.
