ABOUT THE ARTIST
Erik Nicolaisen (1943–2017) was a Danish painter based in Visby, Sønderjylland. He was closely connected to the landscape of Southern Jutland, especially the West Coast and the Wadden Sea area.
Before working full time as an artist, Nicolaisen worked as a schoolteacher. Over time, painting became his main focus. He exhibited locally and was active in regional artist associations including Sønderjyske Kunstnere, Vadehavskunst, and Kunstrunden Sydvestjylland.
His work centers on wide horizons, open skies, and the shifting light of the Danish coastal landscape. Rather than detailed realism, his paintings emphasize atmosphere and mood.
