About the Artist – Åke Wickström (1927–2019)
Åke Wickström was a Swedish painter known for his colorful, heartfelt depictions of everyday life—scenes of village streets, cozy interiors, lively gatherings, and serene landscapes. Born in Blekinge, Sweden, he trained at the Skånska målarskolan in Malmö and traveled widely, drawing inspiration from Paris, Italy, Denmark, and even Africa. Originally a construction worker, Wickström became a full-time artist in the 1960s, exhibiting across Sweden and abroad. His warm, expressive style—often blending naturalism with a charming, naïve touch—earned him a place in museum collections, churches, and private homes worldwide. Today, his work is treasured for its joyful color and storytelling quality.
