Vintage Mediterranean village scene oil painting depicting women carrying water jugs, painted in Sweden in the mid-20th century.
This expressive mid-century oil painting shows women carrying water vessels in a sunlit Mediterranean village setting. The scene is built around strong figures, architectural stone forms, and warm earth tones. The composition has a calm rhythm. The women, the pottery, and the courtyard create a balanced and decorative scene with clear narrative character.
The painting shows confident brushwork and simplified forms typical of Scandinavian modernism from the mid-20th century. Colors are warm and harmonious. Turquoise, terracotta, and soft greens create a lively but balanced palette. Executed in oil on canvas.
A faint preliminary pencil sketch remains visible beneath the paint in the central area. This reveals part of the artist’s working process and adds authenticity. The painting works well as vintage wall decor and fits naturally into classic interiors, Scandinavian homes, or gallery walls.
