This expressive Danish oil painting by Nis Stougaard depicts a group gathered around a bonfire in a rocky coastal landscape. A man and several children stand and sit near the fire as smoke rises into the sky. In the background, the sea and distant shoreline create depth and atmosphere.
The composition focuses on the warm glow of the fire. The light reflects on the figures and surrounding rocks, creating a vivid contrast with the cool blue tones of the sky and water. Stougaard uses loose, confident brushwork and rich color to suggest movement, light, and evening air.
Scenes of everyday outdoor life are typical of mid-century Scandinavian painting. The subject feels both nostalgic and lively. The painting works well as a decorative statement piece and adds warmth to an interior.
Signed in the lower right and presented in its original frame.
