Large Danish oil painting from 1965 showing Hirtshals Lighthouse. Calm coastal light, simplified forms, and open space. A midcentury seascape with a subtle modern naïve touch. Signed by Eric Hansen
This large oil painting depicts Hirtshals Lighthouse on the Danish west coast. The lighthouse stands quietly on a green ridge above the sea. The sky opens wide, with light clouds moving across soft blue tones. The North Sea lies calm along the horizon.
The forms are gently simplified. Buildings, fence posts, and shoreline are reduced to clear shapes without sharp detail. This gives the work a modern character, while the sense of light and space remains controlled and deliberate.
The palette is restrained. Cool blues, muted greens, and sandy earth tones dominate the surface. Brushwork is even and calm, with smooth transitions rather than strong texture.
The composition is horizontal and balanced. Land, sea, and sky are clearly defined. The lighthouse acts as a quiet focal point. Executed in oil on canvas. Dated 1965 on the reverse and signed lower right. Framed and ready to hang.
