Vintage coastal scene oil painting from Sweden depicting small rowing boats resting along a quiet shoreline. Painted in the mid-20th century, this Scandinavian coastal scene oil painting captures the calm atmosphere of a Nordic seaside landscape.
This vintage coastal scene oil painting depicts a quiet Nordic shoreline with several small rowing boats resting on the sand. Simple wooden huts and a wind-bent tree stand along the coast, while calm water stretches toward the horizon. The motif reflects the relaxed atmosphere often found along the Scandinavian coastline.
Executed in oil on hardboard.
The artist uses loose, confident brushwork and soft natural colours. Blues, sandy tones, and muted greens create a balanced palette. The light sky and open water give the composition depth and movement while keeping the scene calm and harmonious.
The painting has strong decorative appeal and works beautifully in classic interiors. It fits well in living rooms, summer houses, coastal interiors, or Scandinavian styled spaces. A charming example of vintage European painting that adds warmth and character to a wall.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Gottfrid Ernst Julius Olsson (1890–1979) was a Swedish painter and graphic artist associated with the artistic life of Skåne in southern Sweden. Born in Lilla Harrie, he developed a lifelong attachment to the Scanian countryside, which became a central theme in his art. Olsson studied at Ahltin’s Painting School in Stockholm in 1917 and later at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts, where he also trained in etching under Axel Tallberg.
He debuted with the Skåne Art Association in 1919 and soon gained recognition for his distinctive style. His paintings often depict rural villages, landscapes, and everyday life, rendered with rich colours and luminous highlights. Today he is remembered as a regional Swedish painter who captured the atmosphere of southern Sweden.
