Vintage Scandinavian winter landscape oil painting from the 1970s depicting a snowy rural road leading through the Swedish countryside.
This Scandinavian winter landscape shows a quiet rural road cutting through a snow-covered countryside. The path leads toward distant wooded hills under a dramatic Nordic winter sky. Sparse trees and small farm buildings sit quietly in the landscape. The scene captures the stillness and solitude of winter in southern Sweden.
Executed in oil on canvas.
The artist uses loose, confident brushwork to shape the snowy fields and sky. Soft greys, cool blues, and warm earth tones create contrast in the winter light. The road forms a strong compositional line that guides the viewer into the depth of the landscape. The brushwork gives the snow surface movement while the sky carries a moody atmospheric quality.
This vintage oil painting works well in Scandinavian interiors and farmhouse-inspired spaces. The calm palette and open composition make it suitable for living rooms, offices, or quiet reading spaces. It adds classic European landscape character to both modern Nordic homes and traditional interiors.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Bertil Landelius (1910–1993) was a Swedish painter, printmaker, and mural artist. He studied art in Copenhagen, at the Skånska Painting School in Malmö, and at the Higher School of Industrial Arts in Stockholm, graduating in 1935 as a drawing teacher. He made his early debut in 1931 at the Skåne Art Association’s autumn exhibition in Malmö and continued to participate in major Swedish exhibitions throughout the 1930s.
His first solo exhibition was held in Lund in 1934 with the artist group Aura, of which he later became a member. Landelius gained wider recognition in 1942 with a critically acclaimed exhibition at Galerie Gummeson in Stockholm. He is considered part of a younger generation of Scanian landscape painters, known for a subdued, atmospheric palette and bold brushwork influenced by modern Danish art.
In 1940 he settled near Lake Ivösjön in southern Sweden, where the surrounding landscape became a central source of inspiration. He is particularly known for evocative landscapes and winter scenes, created in oil, watercolor, gouache, pastel, and woodcut.
Alongside easel painting, Landelius produced a number of monumental works, including frescoes and public decorations for buildings and churches in Malmö, Hörby, Kristianstad, and Oppmanna. His imagery often reflects the changing seasons of nature and scenes from everyday rural life. In later years he also found inspiration in the coastal landscapes of Blekinge.
