Scandinavian coastal village scene oil painting depicting houses and sea, executed in oil on canvas, 1970s.
A Scandinavian coastal village scene showing a quiet path between houses leading toward the sea. A solitary figure stands in the foreground, adding a subtle narrative and depth to the composition. The view draws the eye naturally toward the horizon and the open water.
The painting is expressive and direct in its execution. Brushstrokes are visible and confident, with textured layers and a balanced contrast between warm earth tones and cool blues. Executed in oil on canvas.
This piece works well as vintage wall decor in both modern and classic interiors. The strong composition and muted Nordic palette make it suitable for living rooms, hallways, or gallery walls where character and atmosphere are desired.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Jørgen Bjulver (b. 1937, Aarhus) is a Danish painter and printmaker. He studied at the Jutland Art Academy from 1970 to 1975 under artists including Ole Heerup, and later at Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris.
He traveled widely across Europe, including stays in Paris, Rome, Amsterdam, and London. These experiences shaped his visual language and introduced influences from French modern painting, particularly artists such as Villon and Bonnard.
Bjulver began with a naturalistic approach but developed toward a more expressive style. His work often features landscapes, figures, and nature, rendered with a soft Nordic palette and a direct, narrative brushstroke. In later works, he explores more dramatic compositions with stronger color contrasts.
