Vintage Scandinavian seascape oil painting depicting a coastal shoreline with small boats, painted in the 1930s (likely dated 1937).
The composition shows boats resting along a quiet shoreline with wooden posts and calm water reflecting the sky. The horizon is low, giving space to a luminous sky with shifting clouds. The scene feels open and atmospheric, with a strong sense of Nordic coastal light.
Executed in oil on canvas.
The brushwork is loose and confident, with visible strokes and a soft impressionistic handling of light. The palette combines cool blues and greens with warm earthy tones in the foreground, creating depth and contrast.
This piece has strong decorative impact and works especially well in coastal, Scandinavian, or modern interiors. Its size makes it ideal as a focal piece above a sofa, sideboard, or in a summer house setting.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kati Nordgren (1912–2002) was a Swedish painter whose artistic career spanned nearly seventy years, from the early 1930s until 2001. She remained active throughout her life and developed a personal and evolving style.
Her early works often depict impressionistic scenes from Stockholm and coastal environments, including harbors and everyday life. Over time, her work became more expressive, but her early paintings retain a strong connection to light, atmosphere, and direct observation.
Working from her home studio, she developed her compositions from quick sketches into finished paintings over longer periods, resulting in works that balance immediacy with careful refinement.
