ABOUT THE ARTIST
Nils Bäckman (1896–1946) was a Swedish painter, draftsman, and printmaker. He studied under Emerik Stenberg between 1918–1919 and later trained in etching with the master printer A.G. Lundin. Bäckman traveled extensively across Europe, including Amsterdam, Antwerp, Paris, and Norway, which influenced his artistic development.
He exhibited on several occasions in Stockholm, with his final exhibition held in 1946 at Louise Hahnes gallery. His work has been compared to artists such as Olle Olsson in Hagalund and Pelle Åberg, though often described as more robust in expression. His motifs frequently include urban scenes and lively environments, executed with strong impressionistic energy.
